Spek 0.4 Released
by Alexander Kojevnikov
I’ve just released version 0.4 of Spek — an acoustic spectrum analyser for GNU/Linux and Windows.
This version brings the following features and and improvements:
- Associate with audio files (“Open with…” menu in file managers.)
- Show the name of the open file in the window title.
- Support 24-bit FLACs.
- Drag and Drop support.
- Show file name and its properties in the window.
Grab Spek 0.4 while it’s hot, the source code tarball and the Windows installer can be downloaded here.
A special “thank you” to users of a popular private tracker, their great suggestions helped to shape this release.
P.S. Hello, Planet GNOME! :)

Good track you have chosen for the screenshot :-)
@Anders: Opeth is one of the greatest bands of all times, both recorded and live :)
Ahem. Where did you get 24/96 Opeth? Vinyl rip or some DVD-audio?
@DoomHammer: It’s a vinyl rip.
@Alexander: Indeed. I was at their evolution tour in London and what a show it was. I’ve ordered Katatonia Last Fair Deal Gone Down in remastered and normal version and I was looking for a way to compare them. And I just found your nice tool, what a good fortune :D
I am interested in connecting this to a live microphone or an analog to digital converter interface with a live connection to a sound mixer – so that I can see live audio spectrum. This would allow to tweak a band at the FOH sound mixer to get the best sound in real time. Is it possible to connect a live feed to be analyzed in real time or is that an option for a future version.
Thanks
Jim
@Jim: It’s not possible at the moment but feel free to file an enhancement issue here: http://code.google.com/p/spek/issues/list
